(Ravanty) **Project Duration: Approximately 18 weeks** **Scope**: Microsoft Entra ID Protection, Microsoft Purview Information Protection & Governance, and Endpoint Security Discovery & Architecture (Intune and Defender for Endpoint) # Executive Summary The Client, a large healthcare organization operating in a highly regulated environment, undertook a strategic initiative to strengthen its Microsoft 365 tenant security and data governance foundation. With sensitive clinical, operational, and administrative data spread across Microsoft 365 workloads, the Client faced a familiar but high-risk challenge: how to modernize identity and data protection controls without disrupting clinicians, staff, or patient-critical operations.   To address this challenge, the Client partnered with Ravanty, a Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider with deep expertise in identity security, data governance, and regulated-industry delivery. Together, the teams executed a structured, phased engagement focused on securing identities, protecting sensitive data, and establishing a scalable roadmap for endpoint and advanced security capabilities. The engagement was supported by Microsoft End Customer Investment Funds (ECIF), helping the Client accelerate security outcomes while optimizing overall project investment. # The Opportunity The Client approached this initiative with a clear objective: **strengthen tenant-wide security and governance across Microsoft 365 while laying the groundwork for future security and modernization initiatives.** As a healthcare organization, the Client needed to ensure that identity access, data handling, and collaboration tools aligned with both internal security standards and external regulatory expectations. **Key priorities included:** - Strengthening identity security by implementing **Microsoft Entra ID Protection** features and modern **Conditional Access** controls. - Establishing robust **data security and governance** across Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Teams using **Microsoft Purview**, including **sensitivity labeling, Data Loss Prevention (DLP), and lifecycle management**. - Assessing **endpoint security readiness** and defining a clear architecture for **Intune and Defender for Endpoint** to extend protection beyond the cloud to user devices. **This deliberate approach ensured that the Client did not treat security as a one-time configuration exercise, but as a foundational capability that could scale with the organization’s future needs.** # The Thought Process: A Phased, Risk-Aware Security Strategy **From the outset, the Client and Ravanty aligned on a core principle: security improvements must be validated, tested, and introduced in a way that minimizes operational risk while limiting user impact—especially in healthcare environments.** Rather than attempting a broad, disruptive rollout, Ravanty guided the Client through its proven IDARE implementation framework: - **Ideate:** Align on business objectives, security risks, and success criteria. - **Discover:** Assess the current identity, data, and endpoint security posture across Microsoft 365. - **Architect:** Design secure, compliant solutions aligned with Microsoft best practices and the Client’s operational realities. - **Rollout:** Implement and validate controls through pilot deployments. - **Emerge:** Support production rollout, knowledge transfer, and long-term operational readiness. This framework ensured that every technical decision was anchored in the Client’s business context, compliance obligations, and change control requirements. # The Solution ## Tenant Security & Governance Enablement for Microsoft 365 Ravanty delivered a comprehensive tenant security and governance engagement designed to address identity, data, and endpoint security as an integrated whole. Rather than focusing on isolated tools, the solution emphasized policy alignment, validation, and operational readiness across Microsoft’s security stack.   The engagement combined hands-on implementation for identity and data security with deep discovery and architecture work for endpoint protection—ensuring the Client could move forward confidently without forcing premature changes. # Technical Readiness: Securing Identity and Data at Scale ## Identity Security with Microsoft Entra ID Ravanty began by validating the Client’s existing Entra ID configuration, including authentication methods, Conditional Access policies, and identity protection settings. Through structured discovery and design sessions, Ravanty developed and implemented an Entra ID Protection architecture aligned with Microsoft best practices and healthcare security requirements. **Key outcomes included:** - Modernized Conditional Access policies, with legacy and stale configurations identified and removed. - Implementation of Entra ID Protection features using a pilot-first approach to reduce user impact. - Integration of Conditional Access with Defender for Cloud Apps for access and session control - A phased production rollout supported by testing, validation, and administrative training. This approach strengthened the Client’s identity security posture while maintaining operational stability. ## Data Security and Governance with Microsoft Purview In parallel, Ravanty conducted a comprehensive data security assessment across the Client’s Microsoft 365 collaboration workloads.
