Overview
FleetPride, the nation’s largest distributor of truck and trailer parts, recognized the need to modernize its endpoint management strategy. With a growing fleet of over 4,000 Windows devices and increasing complexity in patching and enrollment processes, the company sought a scalable, secure, and automated solution. Ravanty was selected to lead this transformation, leveraging Microsoft Intune and a structured implementation framework to deliver measurable outcomes.
The Challenge
FleetPride’s existing patching solution was no longer meeting the agility and control required for modern IT operations. Key challenges included:
- Lack of centralized patch management across distributed endpoints.
- Device enrollment inconsistencies that hindered visibility and control.
- Manual refresh processes that slowed down device lifecycle management.
- Limited automation and fragmented policy enforcement.
FleetPride needed a partner who could not only implement a modern solution but also guide them through the transition with minimal disruption to business operations.
The Solution
Ravanty deployed its proprietary IDARE Implementation Framework—Ideate, Discover, Architect, Rollout, and Emerge—to ensure a structured and outcome-driven engagement. The project was divided into two major workstreams:
Workstream 1: Intune Windows Patch Management
- Ravanty conducted a comprehensive assessment of FleetPride’s existing Intune and Entra ID configurations, reviewed the existing patch management setup, and identified pilot devices for testing. Business and technical requirements were gathered to define success criteria. A tailored design was created, including feature and quality update policies. A test matrix was developed to validate patching scenarios, and best practices were embedded into the proposed configurations.
- The team configured Windows Autopatch, created device groups, and deployed update policies to pilot devices. Testing validated the effectiveness of the new patching strategy. Ravanty leveraged custom Entra ID Dynamic device groups for each of the different device types, to allow for creation or multiple Autopatch groups with varying update schedules. Using the power of Autopatch’s dynamic device distribution, large device groups were split across multiple update rings in a single Autopatch group.
- Ravanty provided post-pilot support, refined policies based on feedback and delivered informal admin training to empower FleetPride’s IT team.
Workstream 2: Device Enrollment Remediation & Autopilot
- The team assessed hybrid Entra join configurations, reviewed Autopilot readiness, and identified devices with enrollment issues.
- A design document was developed identifying best practices and recommendations for enrolling Windows devices to Intune based on different use cases and user/device personas. In addition, Autopilot deployment profiles were developed and implemented, and a test matrix was defined.
- Five problematic devices were enrolled with recommended options during the design (Architect) phase. Each process was validated to ensure enrollment was successful.
- Ravanty delivered support services and conducted admin training and transferred knowledge to enable FleetPride to scale the solution across its environment.
Key Outcomes
- Modernized Patch Management: FleetPride established a path to transition from existing solution to Intune Windows Autopatch, enabling automated, policy-driven patching with staggered deployment to minimize business impact. The organization also gained the capability to transition devices to the latest Windows Feature Update versions, including a defined upgrade path from Windows 10 to the most recent release of Windows 11.
- Streamlined Device Enrollment: Enrollment issues were identified, and a solution was selected to remediate remaining enrollment issues on production devices. Autopilot was successfully piloted, providing a method to reset/refresh devices with minimal manual effort and improving consistency.
- Empowered IT Team: Through training and documentation, FleetPride’s internal team gained the skills to manage and scale the solution independently.
- Operational Efficiency: The project established a more agile and secure endpoint management strategy, fully aligned with Microsoft’s best practices. Additionally, FleetPride enhanced its visibility into the update lifecycle by gaining access to detailed reports and graphical dashboards that track monthly device update progress.
